Use caution when working around overhead and underground power lines. Maintain proper clearances when working near power lines. Contact the cooperative if you are unsure about power line clearances.
Please do not stack hay, fruit bins or other objects under power lines. Before digging, call (800) 424-5555 or 811 to have underground utility lines located and marked to ensure there are no underground utilities where you plan to dig.
In past reports from the cooperative’s insurance provider, there have been several public contact claims filed by other electric utilities that resulted in fatalities from the following incidents:
Overhead line contacted while unloading a 20 foot piece of rebar from a truck.
Residential painting contractor’s ladder fell into an overhead line.
Irrigation pipe raised into overhead line.
Farmer came in contact with an overhead line.
Underground line contacted while boring a pipeline.
